Safe accommodation

Our havens, or refuges, provide safe and comfortable accommodation for women, babies and children. Each haven has private bedrooms and shared living rooms, common areas and kitchens.

If you stay with us, you can take the time to heal, recover and gain independence. You’ll join a supportive community of other women and children. And you’ll have access to our training and wellbeing, one-to-one advocacy, and support for children and young people.

We are one of only two refuges in the North East for women from Black and minoritised communities. And we are one of the few refuges in the country who can accept women with no recourse to public funds (NRPF).

On average, women stay with us anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Because we work with women holistically, to make sure they’re supported with every aspect of their lives, most women who leave the refuge are ready to move into independent housing.

The staff who run our havens have years of experience, and are from Black and minoritised communities themselves. They will work with you to understand what you want and need to achieve independence, and be with you at each stage of your journey.

People come in and they can’t make eye contact. They can’t speak or explain what’s happened to them. And they leave here confident and on the path to independence and employment.
