Children and young people services

We specialise in supporting children and young people from Black and minoritised families who are also survivors of domestic violence or abuse.

Our staff are experts at advocating for children to make sure their voices are heard by everyone working with them and their family. They work with a child to understand their behaviour and feelings, and their wants and needs for the future. They can support with safety planning, emotional wellbeing, complex cultural issues, and challenging racism children may experience at school and when dealing with other agencies and institutions.

We also offer counseling and therapeutic activities for children, including:

1-1 culturally competent, bilingual counseling and therapy to help children process difficult experiences including trauma, work towards recovery and develop resilience

Art and play therapy and trips to parks and museums to help children develop and strengthen social and emotional skills

Joint sessions with children and their mothers to help rebuild trust and relationships

Alongside children, we support mothers to understand the effects of trauma and abuse on children, and to learn parenting strategies to raise children survivors while being survivors themselves. Over the decades, we have developed a niche exeprtise around parenting support in cultures where family or society needs are prioritised over an individual’s needs. We’re also expert in working with non perpetrating mothers and their children to reconnect and build a healthy relationship.
