Over 25 Years of Empowering Black & Minoritised Women to Empower Themselves!

The Angelou Centre offers a range of holistic women-only* services for black and minoritised women across the North East. The organisation remains unique as one of the few remaining black-led women’s organisations in the north east of England, providing specialist support for black and minoritised women and children, locally, regionally and nationally.

Over the last year the Angelou Centre has provided a range of services that meet the needs of black and minority women and children in three distinct areas: Training & Development, Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, Wellbeing & Inclusion.

Domestic Violence

All Angelou Centre Violence Against Women and Girls Services remain fully active  supporting women and children at risk through our domestic and sexual violence advocacy service and refuges. Covid-19 and Our Services

All of our services are still operational we are working remotely and onsite, following public health advice and social distancing measures.  We are still taking referrals for our violence against women services and recruiting learners for our online training and activities. Our emergency refuge accommodation remains open but we are currently full. We have temporarily suspended all activities that involve onsite face to face group gatherings of people. Our Services

The Angelou Centre delivers a range of accredited training, employability and development courses to support women into social and economic independence. 

Angelou Centre’s holistic model of care supports women and children who are often socially and politically excluded. Our services focus on wellbeing in order to strengthen women and children’s resilience their relationships, sense of place and belonging as well as their civic connectedness and social contribution.

The Angelou Centre’s provides holistic support, including accommodation, for black, minoritised and migrant survivors of domestic and sexual violence and harmful practices. The Angelou Centre runs services specifically for women without recourse to public funds.
